Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup Crisco® Butter Flavor All-Vegetable Shortening

  • 1 1/4 cups firmly packed light brown sugar

  • 2 tablespoons milk

  • 1 tablespoon Spice Islands® Pure Vanilla Extract

  • 1 egg

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 3/4 teaspoon Clabber Girl® Baking Soda

  • 1 (6 oz.) package semi-sweet chocolate chips (about 1 cup)

  • 1 cup coarsely chopped pecans

If nuts are omitted, add an additional 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375ºF.

  2. Beat shortening, brown sugar, milk, and vanilla in a large bowl with mixer on medium speed until well blended.

  3. Add egg and beat until combined.

  4. Combine flour, salt, and baking soda in a separate bowl. Gradually mix into shortening mixture until just blended.

  5. Stir in chocolate chips and pecans.

  6. Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls, spacing 3 inches apart on a baking sheet.

  7. Bake for 8–10 minutes for chewy cookies, or 11–13 minutes for crisp cookies.

  8. Cool 2 minutes on the sheet, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
